Summer Mental Health Worker – Day/Evenings – Rotating shift

Our Summer Mental Health Worker program provides an opportunity for college students, pursuing careers in the mental health field to gain experience in an inpatient psychiatry setting.  Be the eyes and ears of our expert clinical team as a Summer Mental Health Worker in one of our specialized units. In this role, you’ll observe and document patients’ physical, emotional and social behavior, reporting as necessary to the nursing team.  Maintain a therapeutic relationship with patients, expertly intervening in times of anxiousness and assisting them with their daily activities. Record vital signs and other important clinical information, as an important resource for the multidisciplinary team.  Many of our Mental Health Workers go on to become leaders in Social Work, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, and other areas. Pursue this extraordinary opportunity to gain valuable frontline experience in psychiatry & behavioral health.

This is a full-time, nine-week program running from June 2025- August 2025 on a rotating schedule of day and evening (7:00 am - 11:30 pm) including weekend (Sat + Sun) shifts at our NewYork - Presbyterian Westchester Behavioral Health.

Preferred Criteria

  • College student pursuing a degree in psychiatry, nursing, social work or a related field

Required Criteria

  • High School Diploma

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association

Please note that all roles require on-site presence (variable by role). Therefore, all employees should live within a commutable distance to NYP.

NYP will not reimburse for travel expenses.
