Senior Project Manager (Director)- Architecture and Engineering


The Facilities, Design and Construction Department at NewYork-Presbyterian has an exciting opportunity available; a Senior Project Manager for Architecture/Engineering role. The successful candidate will lead architectural projects in a fast paced, design minded environment, that requires detailed coordination with MEP and other infrastructure disciplines. Capital projects at NewYork-Presbyterian,  that include both new and existing built spaces, create important impact on the lives of thousands of patients each year. The successful candidate will:

  • Lead, prioritize, plan, coordinate, implement and administer capital construction projects on an enterprise wide basis to ensure effective program development and project execution. 
  • Lead, develop, mentor and manage a team of PMs, and by extension, design teams, composed of architects and specialty engineering services. 
  • Provide guidance in the creation of project planning, project design, project scope, and budgets, as well as client approach and design team management. 
  • Work closely with allied departments such as Strategic Planning, Facilities Technical Services team, and Facilities Operations & Engineering (FO&E) to ensure NYP standards and MEP and other infrastructure requirements are in adherence with Hospital standards, policies and regulatory requirements, and to ensure efficient and cost effective operations. 
  • Work closely with project managers to provide mentorship and professional development to develop project designs, schedules, and budgets and to communicate project updates to clients and stakeholders. 
  • Relies upon system data and metrics to monitor capital project and program manager’s performance. 
  • Ensures the established project governance methodology, NYP policies, practice and standards are applied to every capital project with an awareness and understanding of DOH and DOB requirements for each project.
  • Directly manages and continuously works with team members to ensure they achieve success.
  • Provides and fosters a respectful and collaborative environment for staff engagement. 
  • Assists Senior Management in establishing individual staff goals and objectives annually and measures team member performance against set goals and objectives. 
  • Works with senior leadership to prepare professional development plans for staff. Performs all duties inherent to a leadership and managerial role. Participates in hiring, training, evaluating and terminating of assigned staff according to hospital policies and procedures.

This role is a Director level role with direct reports.

This is a full time position that will have oversight on projects connected to the NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital / Columbia University Irving Medical Center sphere.

Required Criteria

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, and/or Design and Construction
  • Minimum of 10 years of directly related experience
  • Previous healthcare design and/or construction or engineering experience 
  • Proficiency in Excel, MS Project, PowerPoint and Project Management Information Systems
  • Previous leadership experience


Preferred Criteria

  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Proficiency in Unifier and Microsoft Project systems
  • Master’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, and/or Design and Construction

Please note that all roles require on-site presence (variable by role). Therefore, all employees should live within a commutable distance to NYP.

Salary Range:

$200,000-$228,000/Annual
