Position Summary
The Specialist Radiotherapy Engineer is responsible for the electronic and mechanical engineering repairs, services and application implementation on megavoltage radiotherapy linear accelerators and associated equipment. Ensures efficient and effective engineer operations in accordance with patient and staff safety and established hospital and department policy and procedures.
Essential Job Duties
- Participates in the design and revision of department policy and procedures for machine and equipment operation, performance monitoring and with the addition of new treatment modalities and equipment. Works with Physics and Technical Operations Manager to design a system to perform quality tracking and improvement to such policy and procedure sets.
- Coordinates electronic and mechanical engineering supports across designated medical campuses and affiliation centers. Provides radiotherapy equipment repair and maintenance management.
- Performs in house repairs, preventative maintenance and calibration of radiotherapy equipment.
- Joins, on a monthly basis, the Patient Safety Quality Assurance Committee, and reports any radiotherapy machine problems, alert recall actions, improvement recommendations and maintenance activities.
- Coordinates effective communication between departmental staff and outside radiotherapy engineering repair services to coordinate maintenance activities with minimum disruption to patient treatment flow.
- Implements and maintains safety standards to ensure maximum protection of patients, staff and radiotherapy equipment.
- Maintains logs of radiotherapy equipment problems, resolution, and maintenance activities and resulting downtime. Maintains an inventory of repair and critical components to ensure efficient and effective emergency repair of radiotherapy equipment.
- Coordinates with Physics to identify test equipment, tools and methods to aid repair and maintenance activities. Provides in-service training to technical and clinical staff.
- Acts as a liaison in dealing with radiotherapy equipment vendors for item quotes, procurement, and coordinating shipment and deliveries.
- Informs hospital facilities on any aspects that may affect radiotherapy equipment operations.
This is a full-time position based out of our NYP/Weill Cornell Hospital, Stich Radiation Oncology Department.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electronics Technology or related field.
- Knowledge of Electronic/Mechanical Engineering for Radiotherapy Equipment especially in Megavoltage Medical Linear Accelerator and its associated equipment
Preferred Qualification:
- Certification from major Linear Accelerator vendors such as Varian, Siemens, Elekta, Accuray, TomoTherapy etc
- Three years’ experience or pertinent field experience
