The Self-Injurious Behavior/Young Adult Unit at NewYork-Presbyterian Westchester Behavioral Health Center offers comprehensive inpatient treatment using both dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). The unit serves young adults with a broad range of psychiatric conditions, including personality disorders, severe anxiety and mood disorders, psychotic disorders, co-occurring substance use disorders, and dementia.

Each patient is carefully assessed, and individualized treatment plans are developed in consultation with referring clinicians, family members, and the patient's other supports in the community. The treatment program includes a full range of clinical services, including:

  • Comprehensive diagnostic evaluation
  • Individual, group, and family therapy
  • Medication management
  • Health education
  • Discharge planning

Social Workers function in the role of a Treatment Care Coordinators (primary therapists) and carry a case load of 7-8 patients. In a collaborative team setting, social workers meet with patients daily (Mon-Fri) together with the attending MD and nursing staff. The clinical teams also meet daily in the morning for nursing report, and for post-rounds following patient rounds. Social workers are responsible for family contact (including facilitation of family meetings), collaboration with outpatient providers and discharge planning in addition to performing psychosocial and psychiatric assessments, treatment planning and short-term therapeutic interventions.

This position will work 5 days a week, Monday -Friday days per week (8:30am - 4:30 pm) and is located at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital / Westchester Behavioral Health Center

This is a full-time day shift position located at NewYork-Presbyterian/Westchester Behavioral Health Center.

Preferred Criteria

  • Knowledge of Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT)
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)

Required Criteria

  • Master's Degree in Social Work (MSW)
  • Licensed Masters Social Work (LMSW) by the state of NY within 1 year of hire
  • Limited Permit (must supply exam date prior to start of employment)
  • Fieldwork or previous experience in a psychiatric setting
  • Form a therapeutic relationship with patients and maintain a neutral therapeutic stance
  • Knowledge base of bio-psychosocial model, Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders IV (DSM-IV) diagnoses, criteria for treatment of different diagnoses in an acute care setting, behavioral risk factors and of the impact of mental illness upon individual and family functioning
  • Competency in individual, family and group treatment modalities and treatment techniques appropriate to an inpatient treatment setting
  • Conduct initial evaluations and psychosocial assessments and to establish individualized and measurable treatment goals
  • Knowledge base of community and discharge planning resources and processes
  • Effective organizational skills to manage clinical, discharge planning and documentation requirements within assigned LOS of inpatient hospitalization
  • Communicate effectively and to collaborate within an interdisciplinary team; demonstrated self-awareness to identify learning needs and capacity to apply supervisory feedback into practice

$46.15-$60.50/Hourly
