Join the clinical team at NYP's Center for Autism and the Developing Brain (CADB). Situated on the 200+ acre campus of NYP/Westchester Behavioral Health Center CADB transforms the way patients with ASD and their families access therapeutic services, offering comprehensive healthcare to children and adults including providing ABA, Early Intervention, Occupational Therapy, and Speech Therapy. CADB is a collaborative program between NewYork-Presbyterian, Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, and Weill Cornell Medical College.
Over a century ago, NewYork-Presbyterian/Westchester Behavioral Health introduced the world to moral, humanistic psychiatric care. We blazed the way for use of the Planetree model and are the first behavioral health facility to be recognized as a Planetree Designated Patient-Centered Hospital.
Occupational Therapist - Center for Autism - White Plains, NY
The Occupational Therapist plans and provides occupational therapy treatment programs for patients across the life span with autism spectrum disorder in our outpatient center. Selects and administers assessments in areas including, but not limited to functional cognition, sensory coping, attention and motor planning, motor skills, home safety, and daily living skills. Interprets assessments. Plans and delivers interventions based on results. Contributes to safety and discharge planning as needed—document recommendations according to guidelines. This position works Monday through Friday and one evening per week. Contributes to treatment plan and goal setting. Conducts group and individual interventions. Documents progress toward goals according to guidelines. Provides clinical and didactic experiences along multiple service lines.
In addition to outpatient services, the Occupational Therapist assesses, treats, and develops care plans for psychiatrically hospitalized patients with neurodevelopmental disorders. Conducts evaluations on psychiatric inpatient units, provides therapeutic interventions, and collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to enhance patient care and functional outcomes. Experience in mental health or hospital-based care preferred.
This is a full-time day position with one required evening shift per week located at our NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital / Westchester Behavioral Health campus.
Schedule: Primarily days with some evening availability
Required Criteria
- Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Therapy
- New York State Occupational Therapist License within one year of hire
- NYS Limited Permit (application for Limited Permit must be submitted upon hire)
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification
Preferred Criteria
- Master's Degree
- National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) Certification
- 1 – 3 years prior experience as a Licensed Occupational Therapist
- Prior experience evaluating and treating individuals with autism spectrum disorder
- Prior experience working within the NYS Early Intervention program
- Prior experience working with the adolescent and adult populations
- Prior experience with non-speaking patients
- Experience in augmentative and alternative communication (AAC)
- Prior experience working in mental health settings
- Prior experience working in a multidisciplinary team
- Prior experience training other professionals
