Position Summary

This ambulatory nursing role serves as a key member of the leadership team and is responsible for nursing practice oversight by organizing and leading the delivery of nursing care for assigned ColumbiaDoctors locations. This includes analyzing clinical practice and identifying opportunities to increase quality, safety, effectiveness, and efficiency; working with operational leadership to identify clinical indicators to measure, evaluate, and improve care; maintaining compliance with all federal, state, and local clinical policies, procedures, and regulations; supervision of registered nurses who deliver nursing care; and clinical competency education and testing oversight for CMA and other clinical support roles. The position leads continuous quality improvement projects and population health initiatives in collaboration with medical and operational leadership. The Nurse Manager will work closely with internal and external stakeholders in the organization to advance population health, care coordination, clinical initiatives, and nursing staff performance and to deliver practice experience that contributes to positive health outcomes for patients and work culture for staff.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for working collaboratively with providers, administrative and clinical managers, and staff to ensure the achievement of practice-wide clinical goals/metrics. Supports all strategies in the area/functions assigned, ensuring organizational guidelines and policies are standardized across all clinical sites.
  • Implements policies, procedures, and workflows related to nursing care, infection control, regulatory compliance, and clinical issues across the organization.
  • Monitors key performance indicators (KPIs) and implements performance improvement initiatives related to nursing practice. Continuously seeks and implements operational improvements in clinical flow. Utilizes electronic medical record dashboards and reports to monitor KPIs of relevant clinical and quality workflows to ensure a holistic view of the practices’ clinical operations.
  • Executes clinical practice optimization and improvement strategies and utilizes a data-driven methodology to monitor progress.
  • Fosters an experience and environment of patient and family-centered care through mentorship, coaching, and education of the clinical staff.
  • Supports and implements clinical staff recruitment and retention strategies that support top-of-license clinical performance.
  • Assesses nursing and clinical support development needs; identifies goals and provides resources.
  • Executes implementation of organizational strategies for clinical staff.
  • Develops clinical competencies for clinical staff at all levels and plans for implementation and ongoing assessment to ensure clinical support staff can perform their duties effectively, safely and to the standard of care appropriate to their scope of practice.
  • Collaborates with medical leadership to develop and implement clinical triage protocols.
  • Contributes to CUIMC population health and care coordination initiatives.
  • Prepares and delivers reports to administrative and medical leadership outlining progress towards meeting goals and objectives related to clinical programs, quality, safety, and human resource initiatives of the nursing staff.
  • Participates in the planning and opening of new sites with a focus on clinical staff requirements, clinical staff workflows, selection of clinical equipment used in nursing care, and patient-centered office flow.
  • Leads clinical staff huddles and meetings to align clinical team with organizational strategy, new initiatives, programs, and policies
  • Keeps current on all organizational, regulatory compliance and patient privacy trainings policies (e.g. infection control, public safety, EH&S, HIPAA, OSHA, etc.) and successfully complete all required trainings.
  • Other duties as assigned within scope of licensure, training, and education.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing or equivalent of education and experience. 
  • A minimum of 4 years of related experience. 
  • Current and unrestricted New York State RN license.
  • Must have excellent clinical skills in a high-volume, high-pressure environment.
  • Candidate must demonstrate strong customer service orientation and the ability to deliver consistent exceptional service while demonstrating tact, respect and sensitivity.  
  • Candidate must be organized and be able to manage a demanding workload and moderately complex cases in an accurate and timely.
  • Demonstrated advanced skills in problem assessment, and resolution and collaborative problem solving in complex, and interdisciplinary settings including advanced proficiency in nursing competencies. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.  This position requires the ability to interact positively, constructively and effectively with professional staff, providers and organizational stakeholders.  
  • Must be able to create and deliver high level communication presentations for senior leadership and other organizational stakeholders.
  • Ability to lead and mentor team through new and changing situations.  Demonstrate a professional and compassionate manner while conveying a positive image of the practice. 
  • Ability to work independently and follow-through and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a culturally diverse staff and patient/family population demonstrating tact and sensitivity in stressful situations.
  • Strong proficiency of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) or similar software is required and an ability and willingness to learn new systems and programs.
  • Must be a motivated individual with a positive mindset and exceptional work ethic.
  • Must successfully complete systems training requirements.
  • Ability to work indoors in an environmentally-controlled environment with a degree of dust, noise, odors, etc. without undue discomfort.
  • Ability to perform sedentary work that primarily involves sitting or standing for long periods of time.
  • Travel between clinical sites will be routinely required.
  • Duties performed routinely require exposure to blood, body fluid, and tissue. Incumbent is expected to perform/assist in emergency care and/or first aid as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree is preferred.
  • Physician practice experience preferred.

Salary

$110,000 - $140,000

Please note that all roles require on-site presence (variable by role). Therefore, all employees should live within a commutable distance to NYP.

NYP will not reimburse for travel expenses.
