NYP Health4Life is a pediatric lifestyle intervention program within the Division of Community and Population Health. Our mission is to empower participants—ages 2 to 20—and their families to make healthier lifestyle choices through improved nutrition and increased physical activity. We collaborate closely with patient families, NYP healthcare teams, and community-based organizations to create a supportive and engaging environment.

Community Nutrition Specialist – NYP Health4Life Program – Part-Time – Queens

The Community Nutrition Specialist will support the Health4Life team and the Senior Director of Maternal-Child Services, working closely with the program’s medical lead to enhance nutrition-related programming in both clinical and community settings.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Support & Patient Care:

  • Provide specialized clinical nutrition services to Health4Life patients and families through counseling, motivational interviewing, and education.
  • Serve as the nutrition expert for the interdisciplinary Health4Life team.
  • Conduct both in-person and virtual clinical appointments, where patients meet sequentially with all members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Monitors and evaluates effectiveness of nutrition care plan in achieving goals and modifies as needed.  

Community Engagement & Outreach:

  • Develop and implement collaborative nutrition programs for Health4Life families.
  • Lead weekly parent support groups and participate in community outreach events in partnership with local organizations (including occasional evening and weekend hours).
  • Build and maintain relationships with community partners to support program initiatives.

Administrative & Research Support:

  • Assist with administrative tasks essential to the successful operation of the Health4Life program.
  • Support research activities as needed to enhance program effectiveness.
  • Responsible for the scheduling of all follow up appointments for clinic patients. 

This role is ideal for a nutrition professional passionate about promoting healthy lifestyles and delivering impactful nutrition education in both clinical and community settings. You must be available for 2 afternoon sessions a week, one day must align with the Health4Life clinic afternoon.

Preferred Criteria

  • Master’s Degree with related course experience and/or work experience
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Experience working with elementary and/or adolescent patients and their families in a community setting
  • Experience working with children and adolescents who have obesity
  • Experience in program development, implementation, and evaluation

Required Criteria

  • Bachelor’s Degree with related course experience and/or work experience
  • Completion of an ACEND accredited/approved Supervised Practice Program in Dietetics or Commission on Dietetic Registration approved registration as a result of international reciprocity.
  • Registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) and certification by the State of New York as a Certified Dietitian/Nutritionist
  • Minimum 3 years progressive clinical experience as a Registered Dietitian or minimum of 3 years of community program experience with a minimum of 1 year as a Registered Dietitian
  • Experience working in a community setting
  • BCLS certification from the American Heart Association
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills and a high degree of flexibility
  • Ability to function collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team

Please note that all roles require on-site presence (variable by role). Therefore, all employees should live within a commutable distance to NYP.

Salary Range:

$72,500-$85,500/Annual
