Certified Medical Assistant – Ophthalmology – Full-Time – Queens Eye Center

Our Queens Eye Center offers general ophthalmological needs, as well as individuals with complex problems demanding the use of today’s most sophisticated technology.

As a Medical Assistant within this center, you'll be the cornerstone of patient care, delivering compassionate service while ensuring our fast-paced environment runs smoothly.

Responsibilities include the following:

  • Conduct preliminary eye exams, including taking patient histories, measuring visual acuity, performing tonometry, and administering diagnostic tests.
  • Assist with the center's workflow and bottle necking.
  • Assist the ophthalmologists during eye examinations and procedures, ensuring a smooth workflow.
  • Manage patient electronic records, ensuring accuracy and compliance with healthcare regulations.
  • Maintain and manage all equipment, ensuring it is clean, and in good working order.
  • Assist with scheduling appointments and manage patient flow effectively to minimize wait times.

Your warm and professional demeanor will create an inviting atmosphere as you welcome visitors and colleagues, directing them to the appropriate areas. You’ll manage multiple responsibilities with ease, while also organizing patient care, reviewing medical histories, and performing non-invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures according to standard protocols. Additionally, you’ll provide essential patient and family education to support their care journey.

This is a full-time position working Monday–Friday: 8:00am-4:00pm, 8:30am-4:30pm, 9:00am-5:00pm with possibly one Saturday a month.

Preferred Criteria

  • Experience in an outpatient setting or with eye practice care
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish

Required Criteria 

  • Graduation from a State and/or Nationally accredited Medical Assistant program, with certification as a Medical Assistant
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • At least 1 year of experience as a Medical Assistant, with proficiency in phlebotomy
  • Must own a stethoscope and be available to stay beyond the end of the shift when needed
  • Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills for effective patient interaction
  • Strong planning and organizational abilities for charting, record keeping, and managing supplies

Please note that all roles require on-site presence (variable by role). Therefore, all employees should live within a commutable distance to NYP.

NYP will not reimburse for travel expenses.

$30.65-$34.65/Hourly
