Volunteer and interpreter Services at NewYork-Presbyterian (NYP) play important roles in the enhancing the patient experience.  Volunteers provide emotional support, assistance with navigating the hospital environment, and companionship which can improve patients' comfort and well-being.  Additionally, interpreter services ensure effective communication between patients and healthcare providers, which is essential for delivering quality care and ensuring that patients are understood.  Together, these services contribute to a positive and inclusive patient experience at NYP.

In this role you will be responsible for setting the stage for the customer experience, by professionally and efficiently provide volunteers, patients, visitors and staff with unparalleled customer service. This role is also responsible for carrying out the coordination of tasks and administrative duties for volunteer services and interpreter services.  Provide support to optimize the overall efficiency and operational flow, and maintain appropriate databases, reports and logs in a comprehensive and compliant manner.  Act as a liaison between volunteers, interpreter services vendors, and areas of operations.

Essential Job Duties

  • Greets and welcomes all volunteers, patients, visitors, and staff in a warm, friendly, and professional manner, paying attention to specific individual guest needs to ensure that they have an unparalleled excellent experience.
  • Must have excellent knowledge of all services and amenities in the building to assist volunteers and visitors to their destination.
  • Is knowledgeable for all forms volunteers must sign and assist volunteers in maintaining their files in a comprehensive and compliant manner.
  • Maintains awareness of multiple competing situations needing attention and prioritizes to assure volunteers and patient/visitors needs are met, while maintaining a pleasant, friendly, and professional demeanor.
  • Identify and if possible resolve issues that may arise with volunteers or with interpreter services vendors.  Must be able to quickly identify if issue needs further escalation so not to cause disruption to operational flow
  • Arranges and coordinates the scheduling of departmental meetings.  Assists with scheduling meetings and notifies appropriate staff of date, time and location. May arrange conference calls. Receives and sorts incoming mail and distributes to appropriate staff.
  • Maintains departmental files and records in accordance with established procedure.  Makes copies, collates and distributes information as appropriate. Maintains department policy and procedure manual. Maintains departmental logs as required.
  • Must be able to problem solve using the support of other units and have a clear line of communication with administration.
  • Tracks and documents program performance. Oversees the tracking system and maintains the database.
  • Gathers data for department in preparation of projects or reports.  Assists in creating presentations utilizing computer software.
  • Must maintain a neat and work area and professional demeanor at all times in the accomplishment of their tasks.
  • Responsible for the scanning of all appropriate forms for volunteers and for interpreter services vendors into appropriate databases.

Preferred Criteria:

  • Concierge Management
  • Experience in a complex clinic setting and/or Patient Access Department.

Required Criteria:

  • Highschool Diploma or GED
  • 2 or more years of customer service experience with focus in healthcare or hospitality.
  • Superior customer service skills
  • Effective communication skills
  • Knowledge of mobile technology
  • Demonstrated trouble shooting skills
  • Strong multitasking and problem solving skills
  • Must be computer literate in Microsoft applications; PC/Data entry skills of 4500 keystrokes

Salary Range:

$23.75-$28.00/Hourly
