Vice President Clinical Engineering & Healthcare Technology Management

Position Summary

This position will be responsible for overseeing and managing the Medical Equipment Operations for the enterprise, which is flanked by Weil Cornell Medicine and Columbia University Medical Center. This role is vital for ensuring excellence in diagnostic medical imaging, capital equipment planning, regulatory compliance, warehouse and logistics operations.

Essential Job Duties

Medical Equipment Operations:

  • Oversee the management and operations of diagnostic medical imaging equipment.
  • Ensure optimal performance and maintenance of all medical equipment within the healthcare system.
  • Lead initiatives for equipment upgrades, replacements, and new acquisitions.

Capital Equipment Planning:

  • Develop and manage a comprehensive capital equipment plan with an annual budget of approximately $150 million.
  • Strategize and execute equipment acquisitions and replacements in line with the health system's goals.
  • Collaborate with financial departments to ensure budget adherence and cost-effective equipment management.

Performance Excellence and Regulatory Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory standards and guidelines.
  • Implement and maintain protocols for equipment safety and performance.
  • Conduct regular audits and assessments to uphold regulatory requirements.
  • Drive performance excellence initiatives across medical equipment operations.
  • Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.

Equipment Center and Logistics Operations:

  • Oversee logistics operations related to medical equipment across the healthcare system.
  • Ensure efficient inventory management, distribution, and maintenance of medical equipment.
  • Implement best practices for equipment center operations to optimize workflow and service quality.

Strategic Leadership:

  • Provide visionary leadership and strategic direction for medical technology initiatives.
  • Collaborate with C-Suite executives to align technology goals with the overall mission of the health system.
  • Identify and seize opportunities for growth and expansion in medical technology.

Performs all duties inherent to managerial role.

Participates in hiring, training, evaluation and termination of assigned staff according to hospital policies and procedures.

Performs other special projects and duties as assigned.

Qualifications Required (R) Preferred (P)

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree (R)

Work Experience

  • 7+ years of relevant experience (R)
  • Familiarity with FDA, The Joint Commission, CMS standards for Environment of Safety and medical instrumentation (R)
  • Proven track record in leading and running a clinical engineering /field service department. (R)
  • Modern familiarity with healthcare technology management standards as defined by AAMI (R)
  • Exceptional ability to translate complex technical and capital terms into actionable strategies for C-Suite executives. (R)
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. (R)

Salary Range:

$275,000-$325,000/Annual
