Position Summary
Performs multiple complex technology activities that support major information systems throughout NewYork-Presbyterian. Provides technical expertise for Information Services initiatives throughout NYP.
We are seeking a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Credential or Badge Integration to lead the planning, design, and implementation of secure and scalable ID badge solutions across our organization. This role requires deep expertise in identity and access management (IAM), physical security systems, and integration of ID badges with various software and hardware platforms, including access control, HRIS systems, and directory services (e.g., Active Directory).
Essential Job Duties
- Applies comprehensive technical knowledge to assigned system(s), and provides technical informational support to Information Services staff as well as end users. May provide consultation on projects and is considered to be a technical expert for assigned system(s).
- Reviews, analyzes, and implements complex systems including development, testing, configuring and installing to support an organization's application systems and software applications. Consults with users to identify current operating procedures and to clarify program objectives.
- Reviews, analyzes, and evaluates business systems and user needs. May documents requirements, define scope and objectives, and formulate systems to parallel overall business strategies.
- Works with end user groups to identify technical solutions to business problems or inefficiencies. Evaluates existing systems and/or user needs and makes recommendations.
- Provides technical training to appropriate staff.
- Maintains current knowledge of field. Keeps abreast of emerging technological advancements of computerization and automation.
- Ability to comfortably make recommendations and facilitate implementation of effective solutions; Acts as “Trusted Advisor”.
- Develops and executes solution strategies that support product growth and agility.
- Acts as visionary and strategist for solution product area.
- Surveys market landscape for solution insights, direction, vendors, and methods.
- Provides expertise to identify and translate system requirements into software design documentation.
- Ability to support product delivery from concept inception to operational support. Ability to provide quality, procedural, systematic management.
- Reviews application or infrastructure development projects to fit systems or infrastructure to architecture, and identifies when it is necessary to modify the solution architecture to accommodate project needs.
- Interfaces and coordinates tasks with internal and external technical resources. Collaborates with Project Managers and technical directors to provision estimates, develop overall implementation solution plan, and serve as a lead as required, to implement the installation, customization, and integration efforts.
- Reviews, evaluates, designs, implements and maintains database[s]. May identify data sources, may construct data decomposition diagrams, may provide data flow diagrams and document the process. May write codes for database access, may make modifications and constructions including stored procedures.
- May serve as a Subject Matter Expert and is responsible for design/implementing/ management/maintenance of Web and mobile technologies solutions using web application servers and the operating systems they run on.
- May lead the assessment, development, and implementation of evolving mobile strategy and architecture including mobile application management solutions, middleware, databases, and client-side frameworks and applications that encompass native and hybrid mobile applications.
- Follows change management procedures as per departmental standards. Monitors applications and/or infrastructure post implementation in production.
- Provides support center assistance to trouble-shoot and resolve system/database issues (ongoing production support). Willing to provide support during non-working hours to ensure the operation of production systems in a 24 x 7 environment.
- Provides weekly status reports to management team on project status, issue tracking, project risks and associated mitigation strategies.
Badge Integration Project Responsibilities:
- Act as the lead expert on all matters related to ID badge systems and integration with enterprise systems.
- Design and implement secure ID badge issuance workflows, including user onboarding/offboarding.
- Integrate ID badges with access control systems (e.g., Lenel, HID, Genetec), HR systems, and identity directories.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (IT, Security, HR, Facilities) to understand integration needs and ensure end-to-end solutions.
- Ensure compliance with physical and logical security policies and regulations.
- Provide technical guidance and subject matter expertise throughout project lifecycles.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex integration and performance issues related to badge systems.
- Assist in vendor evaluation and selection of badge printers, readers, and related technologies.
- Document system configurations, integration flows, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Train support staff and end-users as necessary.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/related discipline or related work experience 6-8 years
- 6-8 years of related work experience
- Ability to work within a team environment
- Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
- Strong communication, collaboration and documentation skills
- Strong initiative and organization skills
- Strong customer services skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Major in Computer Science or related discipline
- May require certification in specific applications.
- Experience in secure credential management and public key infrastructure (PKI).
- Background in environments with high security requirements (e.g., government, healthcare, data centers).
- Proven experience (5+ years) in ID badge system implementation and integration.
- Strong knowledge of physical access control systems and identity lifecycle management.
- Strong understanding of badge technologies (e.g., RFID, smart cards, NFC, QR codes).
- Experience with directory services (e.g., LDAP, Active Directory, Azure AD).
- Experience integrating with HRIS and ticketing systems (e.g., Workday, ServiceNow).
- Familiarity with security compliance standards (e.g., HIPAA, ISO 27001, SOC 2, NIST).
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and project management skills.

Salary Range:
