Flynn Fellowship in Oncology Nursing

The Flynn Fellowship in Oncology Nursing Program is intended to help stimulate career interest and foster the professional development of potential Oncology Nurses. The program is focused on the critically important field of Oncology Nursing. The Fellowship will enhance the student's core clinical education through direct observation of Oncology patient care and exposure to related patient care duties and services that typify the valuable role and important interrelationships of oncology nurses with other healthcare team members. Opportunities to attend various pertinent internal educational programs and meetings with key staff members at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital will provide additional learning experiences for the student nurse. Program Scope:

The Fellowship program includes a comprehensive scope of direct observational and learning experiences within the NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, including adult and pediatric exposure to:

  • Oncology Nursing (possible roles/typical responsibilities, applied practice, possible career opportunities, etc.)

  • Medical & Surgical Oncology (including treatment plans, key policies/procedures, patient education, etc.)

  • Clinical Research

  • Bone Marrow

  • Palliative Care Department (organization, resources, services)

  • Infusion Services

  • Radiation Therapy

  • Patient Support Programs

  • Various Internal Oncology-Related  Forums

  • Integrative Therapies

  • Survivorship

In addition, as part of this learning/development experience, the student nurse will be required to complete an evidence-based practice project in some aspects of Oncology Nursing, which will be presented to their supervisory management during the last week of the program.

Program Schedule:

The program will span eight (8) weeks in length, from May 25, 2026 through July 17, 2026 for the Adult Oncology positions at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell; and from June 1, 2026 through July 24, 2026, for the Pediatric Oncology positions at NYP/Morgan Stanley’s Children's Hospital (positions will be based in New York, NY). The schedule will be full-time (37.5 hours/week). Schedules may vary during the week.

Application Process:

This Fellowship is being offered to five (6) rising senior nursing students (Class of 2026).  There are three positions in Adult Oncology and three in Pediatric Oncology; applicants should specify their preference.  Applicants must be in good standing. To apply, interested students should complete an application, which includes a 1–2-page essay answering the question, “Why oncology nursing, and why should you be selected?”  Applications must be received by January 16, 2026, at 11:59 PM EST to be eligible for consideration. The successful candidates will be notified by February 6, 2026.

  • Class of 2027 graduates

Required Criteria

  • A matriculated student in a BSN program who is within two semesters of completing the degree requirements

  • BLS certification with the American Heart Association

Please note that all roles require on-site presence (variable by role). Therefore, all employees should live within a commutable distance to NYP.

NYP will not reimburse for travel expenses.
