Social Worker - Tobacco Treatment Program - Columbia Days
Cigarette smoking and exposure to tobacco smoke cause an estimated average of 480,000 premature deaths each year in the United States. Smoking is the leading cause of premature, preventable death in this country.
Smoking harms nearly every organ of the body. Smoking is a leading cause of cancer and of death from cancer. It causes cancers of the lung, esophagus, larynx (voice box), mouth, throat, kidney, bladder, pancreas, stomach, and cervix, as well as leukemia. Smoking also causes heart disease, stroke, lung disease ( bronchitis and emphysema), hip fractures, and cataracts. Smokers are at higher risk of developing pneumonia and other airway infections.
We are seeking an experienced Social Worker who has a desire to work in a program to help clients quit smoking. Clients will be screened and referred to the program from internal sources.
The Social Worker will need certification in a Tobacco Treatment Program. Prefer a candidate that has the certification or open to getting certified.
The Social Worker will assess the client’s readiness to quit smoking, provide counselling, support and education. You will also collaborate with the PCP’s if medication is needed. Work with team to review and discuss weekly performance data
This is a Monday-Friday day shift position.
Preferred Criteria
Bilingual Spanish
Certification in Tobacco Treatment
Experience working with a smoking cessation program
New York State License as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
Required Criteria
Master’s degree in clinical socialwork (LMSW)
New York State License as a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW)
