At the New York-Presbyterian/Allen Hospital, our Speech-Language Pathologists help patients with serious impairments connect with the world around them. Our tremendous team provides the expertise patients need to flourish in the areas of dysphagia and communication. We are always looking for better ways to accomplish this goal. We are looking for a new team member to become one of the people who make it possible.
Become a member of our dynamic Speech Language Pathology Department today. In this role, you will work as part of a multidisciplinary team and evaluate and treat medically complex patients with communication and swallowing disorders on an inpatient basis. Ideal candidates will have expertise evaluating and treating swallowing, speech, language, and cognition in the adult/geriatric population. In addition, you will leverage your expertise to determine candidacy for speaking valve use. You will work with complex medical, surgical, neurological and geriatric patient populations. In addition, you will rehabilitate patients from the Och Spine Hospital and work independently within the multidisciplinary NYP-Allen/Columbia team to provide compassionate, culturally sensitive, collaborative and evidence based services.
This per-diem position will primarily cover the NYP-Allen Hospital on Sundays, 2x a month and 2 holidays per year. Additional weekday /weekend availability is welcomed. Flexibility to work at the Columbia campus as needed is preferred.
Preferred Criteria
- Experience with dysphagia management with complex medical, surgical, neurological and geriatric patient populations.
- Expertise with objective assessment of swallowing – independently performing MBSS and/or FEES.
- Experience with complex/critically-ill patient cases (trach/vent, ICU-level, etc.).
- Experience working in the acute care hospital setting.
- Bi-lingual (English & Spanish).
Required Criteria
- Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology.
- Certification by the American Speech and Hearing Association.
- New York State licensure.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
