Behavioral Health Professionals Make a Difference

At NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell, our Mental Health professionals unite the most respected minds in research, education and care. We are home to some of the nation's top clinicians and researchers in behavioral health.

Located on the Upper East Side in Manhattan, our Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (CPEP), established in 2015, is designed to help individuals receive intensive services, including acute emergency treatment, extended observation care, and crisis response, across all levels, i.e. inpatient, outpatient, and partial hospitalization.

Our diverse patient and family population spans a wide range of cultural, religious, and socioeconomic backgrounds. The multidisciplinary team works intensively with the individual and family, as needed, to engage in care and provide targeted treatment while working directly with the community to promote linkages for long-term psychiatric care – all in a safe and comfortable environment.

Under the support of the Social Work Supervisor, the Peer Specialist will function as a role model to peers by exhibiting competency in personal recovery and use of coping skills, serving as a consumer advocate, and providing consumer information/support to all CPEP/Mobile Crisis patients. They will also work towards promoting community socialization, recovery, self-advocacy, and development of natural supports.

The Peer Specialist will build relationships with staff and patients, coordinating daily activities, participating in field visits and interventions, and collaborating with clinicians in determining steps patients need to achieve recovery. You will greet new patients, facilitate a therapeutic space, coordinate nutritional breaks, and tend to the patient experience.
