Located on the Upper East Side in Manhattan, our Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (CPEP), established in 2015, is designed to help individuals receive intensive services, including acute emergency treatment, extended observation care, and crisis response, across all levels, i.e. inpatient, outpatient, and partial hospitalization.
Our diverse patient and family population spans a wide range of cultural, religious, and socioeconomic backgrounds. The multidisciplinary team works intensively with the individual and family, as needed, to engage in care and provide targeted treatment while working directly with the community to promote linkages for long-term psychiatric care – all in a safe and comfortable environment.
Peer Bridger – Psychiatry/Behavioral Health– Days – Grant Funded
Our CPEP Team is seeking a Peer Specialist. Under the support of the Social Work Supervisor, the peer specialist will function as a role model to peers by exhibiting competency in personal recovery and use of coping skills, serving as a consumer advocate, and providing consumer information/support to all CPEP/Mobile Crisis patients. They will also work towards promoting community socialization, recovery, self-advocacy, and development of natural supports.
The Peer Specialist will build relationships with staff and patients, coordinating daily activities, participating in field visits and interventions, and collaborating with clinicians in determining steps patients need to achieve recovery.
This individual will facilitate patient flow during outpatient programming and will be available to patients who need redirection or connection to providers. They will greet new patients, facilitate a therapeutic space, coordinate nutritional breaks, and tend to the patient experience. Overall, the specialist will ensure that all patients, visitors, and guests, as well as co-workers, receive personalized, prompt attention and are treated with receptiveness, dignity, and respect, no matter how limited the contact.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Seeking candidates with effective communication skills, efficient organizational skills, and an investment in collaborative teamwork.
This full-time position, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, with alternating coverage on Thursday and Saturdays at NewYork Presbyterian Weill Cornell.
Preferred Criteria
College Degree
1+ years of experience in psychiatry or related field
Required Criteria
High School Diploma or GED
Certificate from state approved peer specialist training program
Knowledge of the Recovery process, current or former user of mental health or co-occurring services
Demonstrated ability to facilitate recovery using evidence based mental health and recovery processes, as well as ability to navigate community resources
Ability to speak and write fluently in the English language
Demonstrated commitment to continued learning
Basic Life Support Certification from the American Heart Association
