In this highly visible role you will visit all patients and their families and serve as their advocate as we fulfill the mission of putting patients first. You will promote patient rights, identify and address issues and concerns and serve as a key liaison between our patients, families and staff. You will work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to ensure the highest quality of compassionate care to provide the best possible positive patient/family experience.
This is a Part-time Day position. The shift - 10:00AM - 6:00PM Saturday and Sunday
Preferred Criteria
- Bachelor’s Degree from accredited college or university
- Strong customer service skills
- Experience as a Chinese/English medical interpreter
- Minimum of 6 months as a health care interpreter preferably in an acute care facility in person or remotely strongly preferred
- Minimum of 500 hours field experience
- Two years of experience as an interpreter
Required Criteria
- High School Diploma or GED
- Fluent in Mandarin and/or Cantonese
- Must pass the NYP language competency test prior to date of hire
- Proof of at least 40 hours of professional training in Medical Interpretation from an approved program, or Certificate of completion from an approved continuing education program, or completion of an approved nationally recognized language proficiency assessment, or certification from either the National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters, or The Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters
- Knowledge and ability to articulate the cultural and perceptual factors that affect communication between patient/family, providers and interpreters
- A command of the basic language, and all necessary technical terminology, in both languages including excellent command of the English language and target language; basic knowledge of medical terminology in English and target language
- Familiar with and able to perform in all modes of interpretation
- Experience in healthcare setting, preferably hospital and/or Emergency Department
