The full-time Lead Technologist, Nightshift position is needed to serve as a lead generalist for the laboratories. This position would perform testing and help oversee operations between the Blood Bank, Chemistry and Hematology, and Microbiology departments at night. The total tests performed by the Blood Bank department equated to over 25,000 tests and over 2,300 transfusions of blood products and derivatives in 2019. The Chemistry department has an annual volume of about 260,000 tests, while the Hematology has about 140,000. For the year of 2022, the microbiology department processed almost 14,000 COVID tests, in addition, to processing some bacteriology and serological manual tests. Many of these tests include critical values that are needed to be completed and reported in a timely manner for the safety of the patient. Maintaining adequate staffing levels are key to this process.
The vision of this role is to help lead the flow process of the Chemistry, Hematology, Blood Bank and Microbiology departments. This includes running Quality Control, calibration of instruments and performing patient testing within the department that includes not only automated but several manual tests as well. They will also work to help resolve patient testing issues, as well as help oversee instrument troubleshooting issues. Also, this individual will help monitor and work with the Supervisor to make sure supplies do not run out and prevent them from being able to perform patient testing.
This is a full-time, Night shift position, working 12:00am - 8:00am with rotating weekends and holidays.
Preferred Criteria
- 4 years’ experience as a Laboratory Technologist or 2 years with a Master’s degree
- Prior experience in a hospital system
- Leadership skills
- Experience in Microbiology testing
Required Criteria
- Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or related science
- New York State Clinical Laboratory Technologist License from New York Education Department
- At least one year of lab experience
