Director of Biomedical Engineering​

The Director of Biomedical Engineering (West Sphere) will lead and shape the strategic direction for Biomedical Engineering initiatives across the hospital, ensuring that patient care is supported by cutting-edge and reliable engineering solutions. This role will involve overseeing the maintenance, calibration, and integration of medical equipment, collaborating closely with IT, clinicians, and physicians to drive innovation and efficiency. The director will also be responsible for compliance with regulatory standards, managing budgets, and spearheading projects that improve operational performance and patient outcomes.

  • Strong leadership is key, as the director will build and mentor a highly skilled team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development. Excellent communication skills are essential for facilitating collaboration between departments, translating technical concepts for diverse stakeholders, and advocating for process enhancements.
  • Direct all biomedical engineering activities across campuses.
  • Ensure effective preventative maintenance, inspections, repairs, and calibration of equipment. Evaluate emerging technologies and their impact on clinical operations.
  • Oversee equipment inventory management and CMMS.
  • Collaborate with IT leadership on medical device integration and cybersecurity initiatives.
  • Support interoperability efforts involving electronic health records and clinical systems.
  • Addresses urgent Biomed device issues outside normal business hours, ensuring timely resolution and patient safety.
  • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) for equipment uptime, response times, productivity, and service quality.
  • Ensure compliance with standards and regulations from all regulatory agencies, i.e. Joint Commission, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, FDA, etc.
  • Manage medical device incident investigations and corrective actions.
  • Develop and manage departmental operating budget and capital budget.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining equipment reliability and patient safety.
  • Analyze service contracts and determine optimal in-house versus outsourced maintenance strategies.
  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement
  • Partner with operations, physicians, nursing leadership, facilities management, supply chain, and IT departments.

Required Criteria

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Requires 10+ years in Biomedical/Clinical Engineering with 5+ years of leadership experience.
  • Excellent management, communication, and interpersonal skills to align work, drive engagement, and ensure accountability

$167,500-$284,000/Annual
