Director Capital Assessment

Reports to the VP of Facilities Strategic Planning and leads the Facilities Planning Team in meeting the strategic facilities planning needs of the 10 hospitals and ambulatory care facilities across the NYP organization.  In this role, the Director of Facilities Strategic Planning will use his or her understanding of efficient and effective hospital operations to:

  • Works collaboratively with senior leadership to develop guiding principles for clinical service development at each campus that will form the basis of both short and long-range master planning for each site in alignment with the institutional vision.
  • Leads the Facilities Strategic Planning team in assessing current facilities, projecting future growth requirements, reviewing operational systems, and developing facility options.
  • For major projects, coordinates the internal pre-design services and participates in the transition of planning and key contacts to the design team.
  • Participates in the annual process to prioritize capital needs for the multi-year capital plan and assists in presentation for approval to NYP senior leaders and the Board of Trustees.
  • Participates as a key member of the senior management team of the department and serves on various strategic planning groups within NYP.

Essential  Job Duties

Capital Planning/Master Planning

  • Assists individual campuses in creating a campus vision for clinical development that reflects NYP’s strategic goals and priorities. Then, assist the campuses to develop short and long-term master plans.
  • Develops master plans that include workload-based future projections, assessment of current facilities, recommended operational improvements, future space requirements, options for development, recommended options with phasing and implementation plans.
  • Participates in creating a multi-year capital plan that includes the master plans of each campus and works with finance to develop feasibility models, assess program growth capacity, and identify revenue and cost implications for major projects. 

Facility Analysis and Assessment

  • Working with clinical leadership and planning consultants, develops methodologies for baseline capacity analyses, clinical growth assumptions, operational targets, and future projections to guide facility development.
  • Assembles and maintain uniform capacity benchmarks for beds, and diagnostic/treatment clinical services.
  • Reviews recent research and best practices for similar academic and/or major systems to ensure facility plans reflect state-of-the-art concepts.
  • Coordinates the participation of clinical leadership in the pre-design planning and, the subsequent planning meetings with the design team to ensure user input and consensus while maintaining the future strategic and operational goals of the project.
  • Working with operations, clinical, and facilities leadership, prepares detailed pre-design documents including functional/operational narratives, space programs, planning options, operational flow and efficiency recommendations, phasing plan, and assists in the development of cost estimates, infrastructure and IT impacts, and capital equipment needs for major projects.

Team Development

  • Takes responsibility for the recruitment, orientation and work assignments for senior analyst, and space programmers.  Contribute to staff performance evaluations.
  • Leads group in developing standards for documentation, file storage, and presentation templates.
  • Researches and reports on national best practices/Lean strategies/Green models for all health-related services and their financial and operational implications to ensure up-to-date team goals.
  • Schedules and develops the agenda for bi-monthly staff meetings designed to encourage staff growth and engagement.

Required Criteria

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • At least 10-15 years’ experience in strategic and/or capital asset/finance at a complex health care
  • organization
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully with high level teams
  • Exceptional analytical, presentation, and communication skills
  • Advanced computer proficiency (MS Excel/ Word/PowerPoint/Project, Access)

Preferred Criteria

  • Master’s Degree in Business Administration
  • CPA or MPH

Salary Range:

$193,000-$258,000/Annual
