Gastrointestinal Motility Physician Assistant Job Description

The GI Motility Physician Assistant (PA) will be a key member of a specialized team dedicated to the diagnosis and management of gastrointestinal motility disorders. This role centers on hands-on technical responsibilities, including performing manometry procedures and supporting advanced motility diagnostics, with a structured 6–12-month training period under the direct supervision of the attending physician. The PA will collaborate closely with program administration and the current GI PA who will oversee patient appropriateness and workflow. 

Responsibilities include:

Under the guidance of a Supervising Physician: 

• Perform internal and external referral review 

• Performing and interpreting esophageal and anorectal manometry, pH/impedance monitoring, and other motility lab procedures, following established protocols and competency-based training standards. 

• Participating in biofeedback and pelvic floor training for patients with anorectal disorders, utilizing instrument-based techniques and supporting patient education. 

• Working as part of a dedicated PA procedural team, with a weekly schedule of three procedure days in the motility lab, one administrative day (coinciding with attending physician endoscopy day), and one clinic day for joint patient visits and meetings. 

• Engaging in multidisciplinary meetings and program development activities, contributing to quality improvement and patient-centered care. 

• Administrative and clinical duties assigned, including documentation, patient triage, and coordination with referring providers. In addition, communicate pre- and post-procedure instructions to patients.  

Qualifications:

• Current PA licensure and graduation from an accredited PA program. 

• Surgical training background preferred; new graduates are welcome and will receive comprehensive training. 

• Demonstrated technical aptitude, inquisitiveness, and ability to function independently over time. 

• Commitment to professional growth in neurogastroenterology and motility. 

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7.5-hour days (clinic/admin days: start time 8am; procedure days: 7:30 am start).

Please note that all roles require on-site presence (variable by role). Therefore, all employees should live within a commutable distance to NYP.
