Position Overview

The Department of Psychiatry is excited to re-open a state-of-the-art 36-bed inpatient psychiatry unit, including four high-acuity med-psych beds. This role offers a unique opportunity to practice at the intersection of psychiatric and medical care, supporting a complex and rewarding patient population.

Physician Assistants provide 24/7 coverage and partner closely with psychiatrists and Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners to deliver comprehensive, integrated care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary psychiatry team to manage inpatient care
  • Conduct daily patient rounds and provide ongoing clinical assessment
  • Manage all aspects of patient care, including:
    • Documentation and order entry
    • Coordination of consults
    • Discharge planning
  • Respond to acute psychiatric and medical needs on the unit
  • Support safe, high-quality care for medically complex psychiatric patients

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1–2+ years of experience in hospital medicine and/or psychiatric care

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Physician Assistant studies
  • Current New York State PA license
  • NCCPA certification
  • ACLS and BLS certification
  • NYS Infection Control certification
  • DEA registration with NYS Opioid Prescriber training compliance

Please note that all roles require on-site presence (variable by role). Therefore, all employees should live within a commutable distance to NYP.
