Director of Security - Brooklyn Methodist Hospital

In this role, the Director is responsible for planning, coordinating, and directing security operations and team members, according to established procedures. The Director administers a comprehensive Hospital security program, which provides protection of all persons and properties associated with their designated Hospitals and facilities. The Director serves as the primary Security representative for their respective campus and supports, educates, and communicates all Security policies, procedures and personnel.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Plans, organizes, coordinates and directs security operations to ensure effective surveillance of Hospital property and protection of patients, visitors and staff. Evaluates, analyzes and monitors institution- wide security systems and activities.
  • Leads a large team of uniformed Security Officers and Sergeants and has responsibility for a substantial annual operating budget.
  • Supports investigation activity to ensure reliability of information, appropriate follow-through, and adherence to established policies and procedures.
  • Develops and/or modifies and implements appropriate systems to ensure effectiveness of department operations.
  • Evaluates, analyzes, monitors, and maintains performance metrics for institution-wide security systems and activities.
  • Identifies and formulates specific department goals and objectives for approval; monitors progress of related activities to ensure achievement of approved goals.
  • Contribute to the formulation of Security policies and procedures. Develops and/or modifies policies and procedures to recommend to management.
  • Oversees appropriate quality control programs and conducts follow-up to ensure effectiveness of Security operations including the effectiveness of patrols, posts and assignments. Makes appropriate recommendations to facilitate and improve administrative systems and department operations.
  • Manages and oversees department personnel to ensure effective operations. Completes performance evaluations and takes appropriate personnel actions. Conducts staff meetings to ensure effective inter- department communication.
  • Maintains effective communication with Hospital executives, department heads, staff, and outside agencies to ensure effective Security operations. Participates on various committees and represents institution on job related matters.
  • Ensures efficient coordination of Security operations with patient care and other Hospital services. Addresses job related inquiries and ensures the prompt and effective handling of problems; refers unresolved matters to appropriate others as necessary.
  • Coordinates and/or consults with Hospital Attorneys, New York City Police Department and other law enforcement agencies as appropriate to handle specific situations and problems.
  • Compiles information related to department operations and prepares summaries and reports to submit to management as required. Prepares annual department operating and capital budget for approval; monitors and reconciles expenditure of funds.
  • Participates in professional organizations (i.e. ASIS) and maintains current knowledge of field.
  • Performs all duties inherent to managerial role. Participates in hiring, training, evaluation and termination of assigned staff according to Hospital policies and procedures.
  • Performs other special projects and duties as assigned.

Preferred Criteria:

  • Master’s Degree
  • MOAB Instructor Certified
  • Certified Protection Professional (CPP) by the American Society for Industrial Security Organization (ASIS)
  • Professional Law Enforcement background at a senior management level.
  • NYS Mandated Security Officer Training

Required Criteria:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 10+ years’ experience as a manager/supervisor
  • 10+ years’ experience in security or related field
  • 10+ years’ experience in Executive Production, Healthcare Investigations and Special EventSecurity
  • Knowledge of Criminal Investigation and Penal & Civil Law and Management Skills
  • Knowledge of Management and Training Skills

Salary Range:

$136,000-$223,500/Annual
