Mental Health Worker - Per Diem
As a Mental Health Worker your role, under the direct supervision of the nurse, is to ensure excellence of patient care and complement the nursing process by assisting in the individualized care of patients. You will observes patient’s physical, emotional and social behaviors; reports observations to Registered Nurse or appropriate others. You will documents patient observations in accordance with established procedures. You will orient patients regarding unit policies and procedures, and assists with activities of daily living, including physically dependent and medically ill patients. You will oversees patients during recreational activities and accompanies patients to community activities and other settings as needed. When needed, you will promptly assists staff in responding to patient emergencies as directed (e.g. restraining patients). Document self-injury reports in accordance with established procedures and maintain patient safety by removing potentially harmful objects. Demonstrate accuracy in performing: Maximum Observation, observation checks, escorting, counting sharps, body searches, room searches, meal supervision. Effectively intervene with the anxious patient and demonstrate safe and effective implementation of the nursing process with the agitated patients.
This is a per diem Mental Health Worker position located NYP/ Westchester Behavioral Health Center. Per Diem Mental Health Workers commit to a minimum of 4 shifts per month, including 1 overnight and 2 weekend shifts.
- Ideal candidates aspire to careers or degrees in social work or psychiatry.
- At least one year of psychiatry-related experience
- A college degree
- High School Diploma or GED
- Current BLS certificate from the American Heart Association
