At NewYork-Presbyterian, Heart Failure is at the forefront of new era. This very special group of heart failure patients has the option of treatment with a heart pump or Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD).
The Mechanical Circulatory Support Program is interested in recruiting a nurse who wants to further a career in caring for patients with heart failure/mechanical support.
The VAD Coordinator is a professional nurse who provides specialized care for this patient population. In this role, you will be part of an amazing and collaborative team involved in the treatment of group of patients.
This professional will meet with potential VAD patients and families during the pre-op, post op surgical period, and act as a leader in overall patient education strategies.
Patient teaching is a large component of the role. Developing a teaching plan for the patient and caregiver is a key aspect of this role, thereby helping patients to feel empowered by educating them on the care they need to live independently. Along with patient education, the role responsibilities include attending daily rounds, interacting with physicians, nursing and other staff as appropriate.
Additional responsibilities include participating in the departmental quality improvement/data review, assist with Joint Commission preparation and requirements, partners with NYP facilities and partners to enhance patient education across the enterprise, striving to optimize patient outcomes through patient education and clinical expertise.
This candidate must have strong interpersonal and problem solving skills.
Shift: (4) -10 hour shifts with some flexibility
- Minimum of two to four years of experience in nursing
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing
- Current New York State RN license
- Master of Science degree
