Safety Specialist - Environmental Health and Safety
Support general safety programs including indoor air quality, chemical hygiene, hazard communication, personal protective equipment and blood-borne pathogens. Assist with hazardous waste management and disposal to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations. Provide safety-related training to staff. Perform environmental and occupational health and safety audits, and recommend solutions/improvements for identified issues. - Assists in hazardous waste management and disposal, ensuring hazardous materials are properly manifested, labeled, stored, and transported according to OSHA, EPA, and NY DEC/NYC DEP regulations; assist with spill cleanup.
- Provides training, guidance and advice on all safety related issues, to major administrative units including Facilities Operations, Environmental Services, Laboratories and Pharmacies
- Responsible for development of environmental health and safety programs and recommendations for program improvements.
- Responsible for Regulatory Compliance ensuring all requirements are met.
- Review all hazardous waste vendor documentation and act as liaison.
- Responsible for various reporting and dashboards of program for departmental review.
- Assists with general safety programs including indoor air quality; chemical hygiene; hazard communication; personal protective equipment; bloodborne pathogens.
- Performs environmental and occupational safety audits of all facilities.
- Recommends general safety policies and establish procedures for compliance with governmental regulations on occupational/environmental health and safety issues.
- Attends project meetings for new/ongoing construction in assigned area.
- Aids in root cause analysis of employee incidents and accidents.
Required Criteria
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Public Health, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene or Science
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Working knowledge of industrial hygiene, environmental and occupational policies/principles, and regulatory requirements
- Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
