Physician Assistant - ENT - Days - Columbia Campus

We have an amazing opportunity for a motivated self-starter who is passionate about patient care.  We are seeking a skilled, enthusiastic new member of our team to help develop our tracheostomy care& managementprogram for patients throughout our adult hospital, from the ICU to the outpatient clinic. 

This provider will work closely with the supervising physician and interdisciplinary care teamto createtracheostomy care guidelines and best practices for the hospital,managepre- and post-op care,consult on patients with acute tracheostomy issuesand potentialcandidates for tracheostomy weaning and removal.  They will be criticalto patient/family education, discharge planning, and coordinatingoutpatient needs and follow-up.   There will be close collaboration with our tracheostomy care program at Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital, with a team-basedapproachtoprovide coverage across both the pediatric and adult hospitals.

While this provider does not need to have expertise in tracheostomy care initially, they will receive intensive training and education about surgical airway management and encouraged to take a lead role as a primary resource and educator for other providers, nurses, respiratory therapists and other ancillary staff re: the essentials of tracheostomy care.

This is a dynamic position with opportunities to grow in many different settings, including assisting in the OR and performing bedside airway assessments via tracheoscopy/flexible endoscopy, quality and safety initiatives (i.e. clinical practice guidelines, education program), and participation in ongoing research and co-authorship of journal publications. This has the potential to be a deeply rewarding role, providing continuity of care, and following these patients from the peri-op period through hospital discharge and outpatient/rehab follow-up.

Preferred Criteria:

  • At least two years of inpatient ENT, Surgery, Critical Care or Pulmonary experience
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Skilled team player with the ability to function independently at times.

Required Criteria:

  • Bachelor's in physician assistant
  • Degree or major in certified PA
  • New York State PA License
