Social Worker – Burn and Consultation Liaison Services

NewYork-Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medicine offers psychological treatment to burn survivors to help them cope with acute stress reactions and other emotional disturbances associated with such traumas. The hospital also provides specialized care to any patient with an active mental health issue in addition to their acute medical illness. Services provided include emotional support, family intervention and discharge planning.

The Social Worker will provide services to patients on the Burn Unit as well as on the Consultation Liaison team. On the burn unit, the social worker will serve as the primary psychotherapist providing trauma-informed care for patients identified by the primary burn treatment team as having immediate emotional/mental health needs. For the consult liaison service, patients identified as having acute or significant chronic mental health issues, in addition to their primary medical issue for which they are currently hospitalized, will be referred to the CL social worker for purposes of recommending additional emotional support to the patient, family and to provide psychiatric/addiction discharge referrals where indicated.

The Social Worker in this position will work 5 days a week, Monday - Friday (8:30am - 4:30 pm) and is located at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center.

Approximately half time will be devoted to Burn Unit and the Consultation Liaison teams.

Preferred Criteria

  • Prior experience in the treatment of psychiatric/behavioral health patients

  • Knowledge of Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT)

  • Prior experience in the treatment of trauma and knowledge of trauma informed treatment expected

  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)

Required Criteria

  • Master Degree in Social Work

  • Limited Permit (must supply exam date prior to start of employment)

  • Licensed Masters Social Worker (LMSW) by the State of New York within 1 year of hire

  • Knowledge of Psychosocial Assessment
