Gather pertinent information about referred organ and tissue donors while carefully screening medical histories. Interact with an array of organ transplant programs, eye institutes and other medical organizations.
As a Skin Bank Coordinator you will coordinate the operations of the Skin Bank to ensure high quality, cost efficient procurement, storage, processing, and disposition of skin tissue, in accordance with established policies and procedures. Participate in teaching NYH technicians in tissue retrieval methods as needed and supervises technicians during tissue retrieval procedure ensuring established policies and procedures, and quality assurance standards are being met. Provide in-service education to participating donor hospitals in the identification and referral of tissue donors. Provide follow-up with hospitals and family members. Perform tissue retrieval procedure on cadaveric donors on a 24 hour on - call basis; preps and drapes body, sets up sterile field, removes blood via cardiac insertion using specialized equipment as necessary and provides postmortem care. Ensure proper packaging, freezing, and storage is within timely manner and in accordance with established policies and procedures. Monitor inventory levels of supplies for the laboratory and office and reorders as needed. Contacts vendors regarding supply orders or equipment and calls for service of equipment when necessary . Maintain records relating to donor and tissue storage and distribution utilizing IBM-PC. Participate in data collection for statistical reports, or research and quality control purposes.
- CTBS certification
- Degree or major in Certified Tissue Bank Specialist
- High School degree and up to one year of basic technical education
- Minimum of two years of previous experience
- Knowledge of Donor Tissue Retrieval & Processing
