Major Gifts Officer - Development - Days - Corporate

The Major Gifts Officer work closely with physicians, volunteers, and staff to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward gifts of $100,000+. They will also be responsible for developing and implementing moves management plans for each assigned prospect. In order to be successful, the Major Gifts Officer will need to work collaboratively with other staff in the Development Office and be able to thrive in a fast-paced environment. This position will focus on fundraising for our world-class Och Spine program. The Major Gifts Officer will be responsible for working with the amazing Och Spine physicians to continue to grow the grateful-patient pipeline, as well as solicit major gifts for the program. It is an exciting time at The Och Spine Hospital, as the program is expanding throughout our multi-hospital enterprise, and this Major Gifts Officer will drive forward philanthropy in this expansion.

Responsibilities include: managing a portfolio of approximately 125 major gift prospects. This includes personally soliciting these prospects, as well as designing, implementing, and assessing effective strategies to cultivate and solicit major gift prospects, especially for priority programs and projects in the campaign. The Major Gifts Officer will also work to engage physicians, administration, volunteers, and staff, involving them in strategy development and solicitations, keeping them apprised of interactions, and collaborating to ensure maximum fundraising effectiveness. In this role, you will also serve as an effective spokesperson and representative for the Hospital and the campaign, join staff committees and various cultivation and stewardship events, as appropriate, work with staff to devise, coordinate, and obtain approval for donor recognition plans and maintain knowledge of relevant clinical developments and fundraising trends – and provide outstanding service to all prospects and donors.

Required Criteria

  • Appreciation and understanding of NewYork-Presbyterian’s mission and the ability to effectively communicate it.
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of 3 years of advanced development experience with demonstrated success soliciting and closing major gifts
  • Experience building and maintaining long-term relationships with major-gift level donors.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with a working knowledge of Excel and fundraising database
  • Solid experience managing and tracking multiple prospects and donors.
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate within a fast-paced, highly-complex organization emphasizing teamwork, respect, and excellence.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills with attention to detail.
  • An understanding of New York City’s philanthropic community
