Nurse Practitioner - Neutral Sexual Health - Full Time

The NYP/BMH Status-Neutral Sexual Health Nurse Practitioner will provide routine sexual health services at Brooklyn Methodist ID Clinic located at 506 6th Street, Brooklyn, NY 11215.  They will assess patients for PEP/PrEP eligibility, initiate and monitor patients on PrEP and PEP.  They will also initiate and manage ARVs for newly-diagnosed and re-engaging in care HIV-positive patients.  This Nurse Practitioner will have expanded walk-in capabilities to accommodate this patient population.

Duties for this position include:

  • Performs physical examinations and collects medical histories
  • Establishes treatment plans, administers medications, and conducts reassessments in conformance with established standards, procedures, and clinical protocols
  • Performs routine STD diagnostic tests
  • Orders other diagnostic tests for STDs
  • Assess vaccination history and orders vaccines as appropriate
  • Counsels and educates patients regarding STD and HIV risk reduction, reproductive health services and HIV post and pre-exposure prevention services
  • Performs clinical assessments for patients initiating PrEP, PEP, and/or HIV treatment
  • Reviews laboratory results for patients taking ARVs for treatment, PrEP and PEP, and makes clinical plan to evaluate and follow-up any abnormal laboratory finding
  • Refers PrEP, PEP, and HIV-positive patients to appropriate axillary or specialty services
  • Participate as member of the NYP Sexual Health Team and the ID Clinic Team
  • Attend NYCDOH, AIDS Institute, and End the Epidemic Meetings as needed by the team
  • Maintain a detailed and well-organized schedule of tasks and events
  • Respond creatively and professionally to challenges that arise
  • Meet with supervisor weekly and as-needed to report progress and solve problems
  • Assure ethical practices and maintain confidentiality
  • Ensure that all patients’ rights are protected

Required Criteria

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing
  • New York State Registered Nurse License and Adult, Acute Care or Family Nurse Practitioner License
  • Board Certification from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC)
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) from the American Heart Association
