Clinical Laboratory Technologist – Microbiology (Evening)

Location: New York Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital

Location: Brooklyn, NY

Shift: Night (40 Hr/Wk, 4:00 PM to 12:00 PM, Monday – Friday with rotating weekends)

JOB DUTIES: Collect and/or process specimens for analysis according to established procedures. Deliver specimens to laboratory sections as directed. Evaluate specimen problems and procedures for specimen rejection with no more than one error annually. Perform all tests within assigned section, according to procedure manual, with accuracy, precision and within productivity standards. Confirm abnormal results and institute follow-up procedures with no more than one error annually. Report STAT and/or critical values according to procedure without exception. Perform and document daily Quality Control. Recognize problems and abnormal values, using judgment to institute proper measures to maintain test accuracy and precision. Document Quality Control results and corrective action with no more than one error annually. Use microscopes to analyze blood cell count and condition. Analyze Levey-Jennings Charts to find trends in results and preemptively identify errors. Use computer functions, as directed, with no more than one data entry error annually. Report manual results clearly. Perform and document routine and preventative instrument maintenance, alerting supervisor to instrument or product failure. Prepare and label reagents according to policy, informing supervisor of supply shortage. Conserve laboratory resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results. Use protective equipment required by procedure/policy with no exceptions. Follow waste management policy, and discard waste in proper containers. Teach new employees and student theory and technique. Integrate and relate data from other departments to make judgments regarding possible discrepancies.

REQUIREMENTS: Master’s degree or foreign equivalent degree in Medical Technology, Applied Health Informatics, Biotechnology, or a related field. Experience / Knowledge / Graduate Coursework must include:

1) Extracting Lab Data using Cerner analytics tool.

2) Adheres to the laboratory’s Quality Control policies and procedures.

3) Follow OSHA regulations for PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) such as lab coats, gloves and protective shields when in contact with blood and body fluids.

4) Documents all quality control activities, instrument procedural calibration, and maintenance performed.

5) Accurately record and report of lab results.

6) Knowledge of guidelines and compliance wth regulatory agencies including CLIA, NYS,OSHA and HIPPA.

7) Ability to use data analytic tools as applicable.

8) Experience with clinical laboratory information system and understanding of clinical terminologies.
