“A patient with no local family asked me to come with her for her lumpectomy surgery. I didn’t ask questions; I was there at 9 am to hold her hand and pray with her before her procedure.

I was the last person she saw before she went into surgery, and the first person she saw when she opened her eyes. The surgeon told her that she needed someone to take her home. I got in the taxi with her and said, ‘I am that someone.’”
